How to install the HDD

Many people have thought about assembling their own computers. Those who know nothing about computers are very envious of those who can install them by themselves. In order to satisfy everyone's desire, today I will introduce the installation of computer HDD. So what are the common methods of HDD installation? Let's take a look!

What are the common methods of HDD installation

1. Preparation

Before starting to install dual hard drives, users need to consider several issues. The first is whether there is enough space in the chassis because the accessories that can be installed on the chassis bracket are very limited. If you install dual optical drives or one optical drive and one burner, it is difficult to arrange space for the second hard drive. The second is whether the power supply is enough. If the power supply is insufficient when the computer is running, it will often cause the HDD head to continuously reset. This damage to the HDD is obvious, and the lack of long-term power supply power is also very detrimental to the normal operation of other computer accessories.

2. Jumper settings

When the HDD is shipped from the factory, it is generally set as the master disk by default, and the jumper is connected to the "Master" position. If you already have an HDD as the master disk on your computer, you should connect one as the slave disk. Then, you need to connect the jumper to the "Slave" position. The master-slave setting described above is the most common one, and sometimes there are special cases. If the user has two HDDs, jumper the cable according to the illustration on the HDD panel or reference manual.

Third, the HDD is fixed

After connecting the wires, you can use screws to fix the HDD to the chassis. Note that the side with the connection port is facing inward, and the other end is facing the chassis panel. Generally, the HDD panel is facing up, and the side with the circuit board is facing down. This step is a very simple operation.

Fourth, the HDD connection

The HDD connection includes two power cables and data cables. There are similar gaps in the power connector. This design is to prevent the power plug from being inserted backward. As for the data cable, there are two kinds at present. The early data cable is a 40-pin 40-core cable, and since ATA/66, a 40-pin 80-core interface cable is used, as shown in the above figure. When connecting, generally insert one end of the red wire of the cable into the end marked with "1" on the data cable slot of the HDD, and insert the other end into the end marked with "1" on the IDE port of the motherboard. It doesn't matter if the data cable is plugged in reverse. If the hard drive doesn't turn when you turn it on (you can't hear the sound of the bootstrapping of the hard drive), it's mostly plugged-in reverse. Rotate it 180 degrees and insert it.

Seagate Backup Plus Hub 6TB Review

Seagate is a well-known name in the world of external hard drives, and the Seagate Backup Plus Hub is one of the brand’s desktop HDDs. With large capacities of between 4TB and 10TB, cross-platform compatibility, and dual functionality as both a data hub and a recharging station, the Seagate Backup Plus Hub should be a valuable addition to any home office. I tested the 6TB version of the Backup Plus Hub for a week to see if its design, performance, and features make it a worthwhile investment. Seagate Backup Plus Hub The Seagate Backup Plus Hub is larger than a typical portable hard drive, but it’s not huge by any means. It sits 4.6 inches tall, 1.6 inches wide, 7.8 inches in depth, and its all-black color scheme makes it fit in well with other office equipment. It looks sleek on a desk sitting beside a laptop or desktop monitor, and it doesn’t have any unattractive features that make it stick out like a sore thumb. The sides are glossy and there’s a honeycomb pattern on the top and bot...

Fitch Rates Seagate HDD Cayman's Senior Notes Offering 'BBB-'

Fitch Ratings - Chicago - 03 Jun 2020: Fitch Ratings has assigned a 'BBB-' rating to Seagate HHD Cayman's (Seagate) senior notes offering. The senior notes are par passu with Seagate's existing senior unsecured obligations and is guaranteed on a fully and unconditional basis by parent, Seagate Technology Plc. Fitch expects Seagate will use net proceeds to repay existing indebtedness. The ratings and Stable Outlook reflect Fitch's belief that Seagate's exposure to infrastructure end markets and adequate financial flexibility position the company for positive FCF and lower coronavirus pandemic-driven demand deterioration over the near term. Cloud and edge service provider spending on capacity drives should result in a richer sales mix and support profit margins even as enterprise, retail and surveillance markets remain weak and PC volume decreases following the completion of the Win10 refresh cycle. Capital spending should tick-up but slowing dividend growth will...

What Is a Hard Drive Activity Light?

A hard drive activity light sometimes referred to as an HDD LED, a hard drive light, or a hard drive activity indicator, is a small LED light that illuminates whenever the hard drive or other built-in storage is being read from or written to. Knowing when your computer's hard drive is being accessed is helpful so you can avoid pulling the battery or unplugging the computer while the operating system is still accessing files on the drive, a mistake that can cause corruption of important files. Where Is the HDD LED Located? On a desktop, the hard drive activity light is usually positioned on the front of the computer case. On a laptop, the HDD LED is usually located near the power button, which is sometimes next to the keyboard and other times on an edge of the computer. On tablet and other small form factor computers, the hard drive light is on some edge of the device, usually the bottom. External hard drives, flash drives, network-attached storage, and other outside-the-computer st...
